A trip to Tucson in the Spring saw us delivering a new tandem, picking up a used tandem to sell, enjoying a bit of warm weather, and visiting with friends who spend time in the sunny and warm South. The used tandem we picked up later sold and was delivered to Paris!

2024

The Tandem Year in Review

2024 turned out to be another fairly quiet, yet rewarding year for the tandem business. We attended one rally, went on a handful of tours, one international, and had the fun of delivering two tandems, one to Arizona and one to Paris!

To get from the C&O Towpath to Harpers Ferry WV, you have to go up this spiral staircase to the bridge over the Potomac. Easy, even carrying tandems up and over. A visit to Harpers Ferry is definitely worth the effort!

As in most years, it's not all about the bike. We spent a month in Scotland, mostly in the Highlands but with a week on Shetland as well. Hairy "coos", tons of sheep, whisky (with no "e"), and more stunning scenery than we could take in! Bottom line favorite place we visited: hard to single one out, but I really liked Glasgow.

Then is was back on the bike (whew!) for a month visiting France with 2 other tandem couples. We took in Paris, the Loire Valley, Brittany, and Normandy, finally making our way back to Paris to return home. I think what strikes me most about France is the combination of eye-popping scenery, fascinating history, warm and friendly people, good food, and some of the best tandem riding on the planet. France, we will be back, I can assure you!

We weren't Stateside very long after leaving France before we loaded up and were off to Ankeny, Iowa for the Midwest Tandem Rally, an annual gathering we very much enjoy attending. We were accompanied by good friends, a tandem couple from Yakima, Washington and at the rally also connected with all our good friends and customers in the Midwest. The riding in the Des Moines area is stellar.

Along with our Yakima friends we then carried on to downtown Pittsburgh to begin our tandem adventure on the GAP and C&O from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC. This is an experience not to be missed in a tandem couple's journey together! Quiet riding, calming vistas, almost more history than one can take in.....and rounding a bend in the trail along the Potomac River to suddenly see the Washington Monument looming in the distance.....wow! While riding the trails we toured the Antietam Battlefield by tandem and then after a couple of days in DC, we carried on to the Eastern Shore of Maryland for some Underground Railroad history. Our return journey to Pittsburgh was highlighted by a day tandeming the Gettysburg battlefield and a somber visit to the Flight 93 Memorial.
